Firstlight is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with a clock, a search field, a to-do list, and a row of shortcuts. It is designed to keep your data on your machine or inside your own Chrome account, and nowhere else.
What the extension stores
Two things, and only when you create them yourself:
- Your to-do items and their checked state.
- The names and URLs of the shortcuts you add to the dock.
Where that data lives
Data is written to chrome.storage.sync, which syncs through your signed-in Chrome profile using Google's infrastructure. If sync is unavailable, the extension falls back to localStorage on this machine only. Either way, nothing is sent to a server we operate. We do not run one.
Network requests
The page makes outbound requests in exactly three situations:
- Shortcut icons are fetched from the Dashboard Icons CDN on jsDelivr. The request contains only the icon name.
- If an icon is missing there, Chrome's own _favicon endpoint is used instead.
- Submitting the search field sends your query to Google, because that is what a search field does.
What it never does
- No analytics, telemetry, or usage reporting of any kind.
- No cookies, no fingerprinting, no third-party trackers.
- No account system and nothing to sign in to.
- No access to your browsing history, tabs, or other sites.
Permissions
The extension declares two permissions: storage, to save your list and shortcuts, and favicon, to resolve site icons through Chrome. It requests nothing else.
